Learning to wade rivers (even in winther with sub zero C) is essential so that you can go looking for crossings for the vehicles when you come to the rivers. As a rule of thumb, a river you cant wade you should not drive across. You have to have large strong walking sticks in order to check the bottom and keep balance. It is cold, wet and hard work - but fun also.

Today is the day of Thorlak the holy. We are memorizing Thorlak the holy former bishop of Skalholt who died the 23. december 1193.
Pope Johannes Paul II named him the guarding saint of Iceland and he is the only icelandic saint in the catholic religion who has been officially recognized.
He was so holy that he never drank water but only vine.
The picture shows the free Lutheran church in Reykjavík and to the right the National Gallery of Iceland. The house the gallery is situated in was build in 1916 and construted as a freezing plant. Various activites have found place in this house, for many years it was the most popular dance house in town. When I was young this was the place to go weekend evenings to listen to rock bands, have a drink or two and admire the girls. From 1988 you admire art in the house.

Welcome to this world. Our seventh grandchild, born 31. january 19:07, 51 cm long and 3650 gr. A beautiful healthy girl with the whole life ahead of her. Hopfullu filled with joy and happiness.

Same flow a few km further down the river from yesterday

1. november 2007.
A cold, rainy and gloomy day.
The church Garðakirkja is my local church here where I live in Garðabæ. It was only taken into use 1966, but according to history a church has been standing on that same spot since the beginning of time (when Iceland was first inhibited).

Now it is all over, we have to find something else to celebrate :)

Some butterflies are harder to handle than others.
A young man preparing for a national dance contest. Not often we see him dressed like this.
It worked though - a brilliant second place :)
