Holger Torp (Holger) > 3. december 2008 You have been asking some questions in the past three days. This photo as well as the three others are taken on Hellisheiði near Reykjavík. The temperature was -8°C or 17 F. The geothermal area of the Hellisheiði Geothermal Plant is at Hengill, a mountain situated on an active volcanic ridge. Estimated production for the Hellisheiði Plant is 300 MW electricity and 400 MW thermal energy. The plant´s purpose is to meet increasing demand for electricity and hot water for space heating in the industrial and domestic sectors. Two steam turbines (45 megawatts each; 90 MW total) and a low-pressure turbine (32 MW) are online as of summer 2008. Hengill area The construction area is on Hellisheiði heath and its vicinity south of Hengill volcano. The area is divided into the upper geothermal area above Hellisskarð pass and the lower area below the pass. A much larger area has, however, been included in research to assess the environmental impact of the power plant. Ground water research covers the area from the south coast, west to Faxaflói bay, north to Esja mountain and Þingvallavatn lake and east to Ölfusá river. The estimated production for Hellisheidi Plant is 300 MW of electricity and 400 MW of heat. By connecting to adjacent areas, the power plant can be expanded considerably.

Holger Torp (Holger) > 23. december 2007 Today is the day of Thorlak the holy. We are memorizing Thorlak the holy former bishop of Skalholt who died the 23. december 1193. Pope Johannes Paul II named him the guarding saint of Iceland and he is the only icelandic saint in the catholic religion who has been officially recognized. He was so holy that he never drank water but only vine. The picture shows the free Lutheran church in Reykjavík and to the right the National Gallery of Iceland. The house the gallery is situated in was build in 1916 and construted as a freezing plant. Various activites have found place in this house, for many years it was the most popular dance house in town. When I was young this was the place to go weekend evenings to listen to rock bands, have a drink or two and admire the girls. From 1988 you admire art in the house.
