Eyrarvík at Skjálfanda, mountain Hágöng ahead.
Up from Eyrarvík lies Flateyjardalur which is a deserted valley in northern Iceland, on Flateyjarskagi peninsula. The valley stretches north from Fnjóskadalur valley all the way north to Skjálfandi bay. Flateyjardalur is named after the island of Flatey, which lies just off the shore. Finnboga saga ramma, one of the Icelandic sagas, takes place in the valley. The last inhabitants left the valley in 1953.

Learning to wade rivers (even in winther with sub zero C) is essential so that you can go looking for crossings for the vehicles when you come to the rivers. As a rule of thumb, a river you cant wade you should not drive across. You have to have large strong walking sticks in order to check the bottom and keep balance. It is cold, wet and hard work - but fun also.
